The Kingdom of Free Gondolin is a small, safe nation, renowned for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 16 million are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Defence, and Law & Order. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 36%. A substantial private sector is dominated by the Gambling industry.
Political parties are banned from advertising and receiving private donations, the country is preparing for war, organ donation rates are among the lowest in the region, and college students make ends meet by selling their kidneys. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Free Gondolin's national animal is the harpia, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the gonden.
Free Gondolin is ranked 2nd in the region and 19,361st in the world for Largest Defense Forces (per capita).
