Então, tecnicamente eles só podem usar o que está nos Apêndices de SdA, pq foram esses os direitos negociados. Silma e Contos estão fora do negócio.

Minha aposta é que vão começar com a forja dos Anéis e Sauron provocando a Queda de Númenor.

Na verdade, foi dito que a Amazon está trabalhando junto ao Tolkien Estate, que é o detentor de basicamente tudo. No último mapa divulgado, por exemplo, eles usaram o mapa de Númenor que está em Contos Inacabados.

O motivo principal é na verdade que a Amazon não tem os direitos sobre o Silma, até onde eu li.

Se pudessem usar, com toda a certeza produziriam. Silmarilion cobriria facilmente umas quatro temporadas, a primeiro indo da destruição das árvores até a Terceira Batalha, segunda contando sobre a época até a Quarta Batalha, a terceira pegando a Quinta, e uma ultima temporada sobre os eventos que antecedem a Quinta e a destruição de Beleriand. Caberiam aqui Thingol, Melian e Menegroth, Beren&Luthien, os Filhos de Húrin, e por fim Earëndil. Daria tempo pra ver os Reis Noldor, Fingolfin e sua queda, Gondolin, seria a perfeição.

Inclusive também aposto que se a Série for o sucesso que se espera, a Amazon fará de tudo pra comprar os direitos do Silma.

Bel, Mireille e Neithan estava certos desde o início. Ontem saiu um outro artigo na VF e os produtores confirmaram as limitações dos direitos autorais:

“We have the rights solely to The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, The Return of the King, the appendices, and The Hobbit,” Payne says. “And that is it. We do not have the rights to The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, The History of Middle-earth, or any of those other books.”

“There’s a version of everything we need for the Second Age in the books we have the rights to,” McKay says. “As long as we’re painting within those lines and not egregiously contradicting something we don’t have the rights to, there’s a lot of leeway and room to dramatize and tell some of the best stories that [Tolkien] ever came up with.”

“We took all these little clues and thought of them as stars in the sky that we then connected to write the novel that Tolkien never wrote about the Second Age,”

The rights to the First Age material from The Silmarillion are still owned by the Tolkien estate.

“We worked in conjunction with world-renowned Tolkien scholars and the Tolkien estate to make sure that the ways we connected the dots were Tolkienian and gelled with the experts’ and the estate’s understanding of the material,” Payne says.

E, quer saber? Eles não estão errados em agir assim não...

Pegaram os seus 250 milhões de dólares e assumiram a posição do Vigia-Uatu da Marvel (voto de não interferência ou admoestação, salvo in extremis).

Para cada liberdade não canônica que cometerem vão ter, possivelmente, 100 pessoas se divertindo e se entretendo e , quiçá, umas 10 a 20 achando ruim.... Mas o fato é que, provavelmente, um bom bocado dessas 120 não estaria nem tomando conhecimento de que Tolkien existe sem a série pra chamar atenção pra obra, pro nome e legado do autor se fôssemos passar mais quinze ou vinte anos sem uma investida audiovisual no mundo do JRRT.

Quando os direitos expirarem vai acabar tendo tudo que é tipo de obra e abordagem sobre o material mesmo. Desde as extrapolações canônicas até a mais viajada iteração de Universo Alternativo.

Nâo foi o próprio Tolkien que negociou os direitos do SdA estipulando "dinheiro ou arte"? "Art or cash".

He added that afterward he was visited by Forrest J. Ackerman and several other people who pitched the idea of making a movie based on The Lord of the Rings.

They have apparently toured America shooting mountain and desert scenes that seem to fit the story. The Story Line or Scenario was, however, on a lower level. In fact bad. But it looks as if business might be done. Stanley U. & I have agreed on our policy: Art or Cash. Either very profitable terms indeed; or absolute author’s veto on objectionable features or alterations.

Although many people like to cite later letters from Tolkien where he comments first on a synopsis and then an actual script for the proposed movie (written in 1958), Tolkien eventually settled for Cash and control over the film rights (and all associated merchandising) passed out of Tolkien’s hand forever. Was this the ideal solution? For Tolkien it probably was. He was only one man, no matter how popular his book, and the “Hollywood machine” rolls on in its own inflexible way. One either dances to the piper’s tune or one leaves the party.
