Para aqueles que já háviam perdido as esperanças, eis que a Variety surge com uma notícia bomba: a de que O Hobbit será mesmo produzido. A MGM diz na revista que o filme terá um orçamento de $150 a 200 milhões de dólares e que poderá ser feito em uma ou duas partes (uau!). Ela ainda diz que espera que o filme seja dirigido por Peter Jackson
O Hobbit será produzido pela MGM em parceria com a New Line, que divide os direitos de propriedade com a MGM.
